Simple steps to refresh your website for 2025

As the new year approaches, it’s not just your personal resolutions that need attention—it’s time to give your website a fresh start too! Whether you’ve had your site up for years or recently launched, giving it a refresh can help your business stay relevant, attract more visitors, and ensure you’re kicking off 2025 with a polished, user-friendly experience.

I'm not sure about you, but my work motivation is definitely not at an time high (how many mince pies did I eat yesterday you may ask...), so luckily for you, I've picked out a few 'small' adjustments you can easily make over the remains of this festive period that will have a big impact on your start to your new year.

So ready to kick-start 2025 with your kick-ass small business? Let's go...

1. Update your imagery

Your website’s branding and visuals are often the first things visitors notice. Now, I'm not about to suggest you should completely re-invest your branding yourself over the next few days (although this could be something to add to your new year to do list!), but the imagery you use on your website is a big reflection of who your brand is. At the very least, some of the images on your website now may be more targeted towards Christmas content, and come Jan 1st, your users will be over seeing that.

Make sure your imagery reflects the current season, your customers current mood (remove those mentions of Christmas!), and is aligned to their New Year goals.

2. Check for broken links and outdated information

Does doing actual work (*shudders*) still sound a bit too much right now? The best thing you can do is to shop your site like a user. If you want to start off the new year well, you'll need to make sure everything is working smoothly. Check for:

  • Any broken links (either leading to 404 errors or not going where you'd expect)

  • Outdated information (get ready to remove those Christmas business hours)

  • Old promotions or 2024 events (these will soon literally be so last year...)

3. Streamline your navigation

As your small business grows, it’s easy for your website’s navigation to become cluttered with too many pages or menu items. Simplifying your navigation can help visitors find the information they need more easily, improving both user experience and conversion rates.

Take a look at your current menu and consider:

  • Are there unnecessary pages that could be consolidated or removed?

  • Are important pages buried too deep in submenus?

  • Can you introduce cleaner headings or categories?

For example, can you group all your services under one 'Our Services' tab rather than having every individual service in your top menu? This can keep your navigation clean and organised.

4. Optimise for mobile (Again!)

As you've hopefully learned from all my other blog posts this year, mobile optimisation is more important than ever. Even if you optimised your site for mobile when building it in, it’s worth checking again to ensure that your site still delivers a seamless mobile experience.

Make sure:

  • Text is easy to read on small screens.

  • Images and buttons are properly sized for touch navigation.

  • All your forms and CTAs are mobile-friendly, ensuring users can easily fill out contact details or make purchases from their phones.

5. Refresh your CTAs (calls to action)

Your calls to action (CTAs) are what encourage visitors to take the next step—whether that’s booking a consultation, signing up for a newsletter, or making a purchase. The start of a new year is the perfect time to revamp your CTAs and make sure they’re as compelling as possible.

Remember to make sure your CTA copy is action-oriented and time sensitive, and if possible, try to reflect the excitement of the new year in your buttons.
